Here's a quick edit of maybe more of what it should look like.... I took the levels & made the top of the histogram the threshold of white. I added a layer & turned it into a multiply blend layer. I did auto colors, levels, etc a few times & did a minus 20 saturation 2x's as well... I sharpened both images once shrunk down.... - Paul
